This cottage rehabilitation project with additional an extension of a cottage with one bedroom is spent $45K dollars. New cottage exterior sidings are charred Douglas Fir wood, burned at one of its sides. This burning technique is not undertake without benefits. The Japanese call it “shou-sugi-ban”, an ancient wood burning technique to make it long lasting. This technique is used by Japanese people to strengthen wood resilience against weathering by rainwater splashes, termites and the growth of mold. This technique is quite effective, and some are using charred wood for both ceiling and wall interiors. Indeed, for interior use this burned wood must be smoothed/remove the black crust combustion. Apparently, this process leaves brown wood fibers and form an interesting color pattern.

This is bedroom extension with parquet floor and large glass door. An elongated terrace behind the old white cottage, which is an extension of the new building’s porch. That’s looks functional with lounge chairs. A cottage extension is finished with one bedroom inside, to accommodate more family or guest. A walkway with wooden floors connecting the old building with the new black cottages.
